EXECUTIVE BOARD (2011/2012)
President: Colin Megannety
Colin is a first generation Canadian and was born in Vancouver. He lived in Europe while growing up and currently lives in Burnaby. After graduating from high school, Colin worked in various industries including Culinary Arts, Retail, Tourism & Hospitality, and also worked for 3 years as an apprentice Cabinet-Maker. Still unsatisfied with his work, Colin decided to return to school to further his education and he realized that his diverse work experience would suit a career in Human Resources Management. Following completion of the 2 year diploma program, Colin would like to gain more knowledge and experience in various HR related fields such as Labor Relations and Training & Development. In his time away from school and work, Colin is a musician, a woodworker, a gardener, and an amateur chef. He enjoys spending time with family, friends and his dog.
Vice President: Scott Hanley
Scott is currently in his second year of Human Resource Management diploma at BCIT. While completing his Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Victoria, Scott took an organizational behavior class as an elective and became very interested in this field of study. Upon further research, Human Resources Management became a very appealing discipline to Scott due to the depth and diversity offered within. Upon completion of the HR Management diploma, Scott wishes to obtain diverse experience in all aspects of Human Resources and eventually complete the CHRP designation. Scott is also the BC HRMA student representative for BCIT during the 2011-2012 semesters. Outside of school Scott enjoys snowboarding, golf, team sports and hanging with friends and family.
VP of Finance: Ben Latham
Ben was born in Vancouver but spent his early years travelling and living in Europe with his family before returning to BC at the age of 9. During high school Ben received national awards in mathematics and science, and was offered both football and academic scholarships internationally. He chose to attend Simon Fraser University where he received a certificate in liberal arts in 1996 before joining the Canadian Armed Forces. Ben spent almost 10 years in the Army, as both an Infantry Officer and Intelligence Officer. When he left the armed forces in 2005 as a Lieutenant, he was the Brigade Intelligence Officer. After the military, Ben worked as a security consultant as well as started a renovation company. He took his electrician, carpentry, and roofing apprenticeships before a workplace accident left him unable to perform construction duties. After recovery, Ben took the opportunity to further his education and is now 1 year away from completing the Human Resource Management Program at BCIT. He currently lives in Maple Ridge with his wife and 3 kids, and is expecting his 4th child in late September.
VP of Events: Amy Turnbull
Amy grew up on the Sunshine Coast and moved to Vancouver 12 years ago. She has worked in retail sales, office administration, and store management. After travelling through Europe, Amy attended Capilano University for various arts and science courses and obtained her TEFL certificate from Vancouver Community College in 2006. In 2007, she spent a year travelling through Korea and South East Asia teaching English. Upon her return to Vancouver, Amy was hired as a Store Manager and assisted in opening the first BoConcept furniture store in Canada. In this role, Amy attended many tradeshows in Denmark and participated in the various levels of management training. She became interested in human resources as a result of her work in sales management. Amy applied to BCIT to gain further experience and has since completed her first year in the Human Resource Management Program.
VP of Marketing: Tamara Jenkins

To be near to the abundant opportunities that the West-Coast offers, Tamara moved from Kamloops about 4 years ago. She has a variety of work experience including: call centre representative positions, photo lab manager, restaurant server, hockey time keeper, etc. Her excitement about HR developed while working at eBay and seeing how well their department operated. Upon graduation, Tamara hopes to start working with a company that will allow her to grow to a strategic-level position. She plans to finish her BBA and attain the CHRP designation. Tamara’s an avid animal lover. She also loves camping, travelling, baking and summer activities. Besides having a career she can be passionate about every day, Tamara feels it would be a dream to have a patent on an invention of some sort.
Post-Diploma Representative: Theresa Monaghan

First Year Representative: Steve Crozier

Steve was born in Kingston, Ontario, and moved to Vancouver after high school to attend Simon Fraser University, where he majored in Political Science. After completing his degree, he moved to Toronto to follow a career in law, working in a prominent intellectual property law firm. Unsatisfied with the field, he began searching for a more fulfilling career path, discovering an interest in Human Resources. Now working towards his CHRP designation, Steve particularly enjoys studying corporate labour policy and labour relations. In his spare time, he plays ultimate Frisbee, cycles, and attends concerts. Steve is very excited to be back in Vancouver, to not shovel snow this winter, and to be attending BCIT for the two-year Human Resource Management Program.
